Dear Friend,
Over the weekend, severe storms and tornadoes tore through Mississippi, Alabama, and West Georgia, devastating communities in all three states. My prayers are with the Georgians whose homes and livelihoods were damaged or destroyed, and with our neighbors in Alabama and Mississippi, especially those who had a loved one lose their life due to the severe weather.
I thank our first responders for their immediate and ongoing response, as well as our hospital staff, utilities services, and the many organizations and volunteers who reached out to help those in need. My staff and I have been on the ground, and we will continue to work with Governor Kemp and others to provide whatever assistance we can as recovery efforts continue.
Although it will take some time, I will do everything in my power as your Congressman to help get our community cleaned up and back to normal in the aftermath of this storm. Yesterday morning, my team and I surveyed storm damage with county officials and were briefed on the emergency response efforts. Seeing the damage to homes, businesses, and facilities firsthand showed the urgent need for federal aid to help our friends and neighbors through this long-term recovery and rebuilding process. Rest assured, we will get through this together. The darkest times bring out the very best in folks, and we’ve seen the generosity throughout our community following the severe weather.

Last Friday, Republicans in the House passed H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights Act, to ensure parents know exactly what their children are being taught in the classroom, how schools are spending their resources, and what steps are being taken to protect students’ privacy and physical safety.
Parents always deserve a seat at the table when it comes to their child’s education but unfortunately many school districts have been ignoring the wishes of parents while special interest groups try to criminalize free speech. The Parents Bill of Rights ensures that parents' wishes are respected and makes clear the duties schools have to parents.

Last Thursday, the House Budget Committee held a hearing with Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young. We covered a number of topics, but I highlighted how President Biden and House Democrats have driven our country into an economic crisis. Prior to the Democrats passing their American Rescue Plan, inflation was at 2%. Instead of giving the economy time to recover, they rammed through a big-government bill that skyrocketed inflation to over 9%. It’s clear unnecessary radical-Left spending drove inflation to a 40-year high.

Thank you to the Peanut Leadership Academy (PLA) classes of 2021-22 for visiting with me last week. The Peanut Leadership Academy does great work to develop relationships between grower organizations and agricultural education programs to improve overall productivity.

Rep. Drew Ferguson, R-Ga., told Newsmax on Friday that the Biden administration "is driving inflation through the roof" with "reckless spending."
Ferguson, who sits on the House Ways and Means Committee, said on "Wake Up America" that "the reckless spending by this administration is driving inflation through the roof and American families feel it every single day."

House Bill Would Block Biden’s Student Loan Bailout Tennessee Star - 03/23/2023
While the constitutionality of President Joe Biden’s student loan bailout is awaiting a Supreme Court decision, a bill re-introduced by two House members would block the Biden administration from canceling student loan debt on a mass scale.
The Student Loan Accountability Act, authored by U.S. Representatives Mike Gallagher (R-WI-08) and Drew Ferguson (R-GA-03) would also prevent forgiven loans from getting an additional tax break and it would bar the Internal Revenue Service from sharing American’s tax information for the purpose of implementing mass loan cancelation.
“While the Supreme Court debates the constitutionality of this overreaching proposal, the Student Loan Accountability Act would quickly put this discussion to rest. Congress must focus on market driven solutions that bring down the cost of higher education, including reducing the government’s role in the student loan market,” Ferguson added.
