Dear John,
A congregant leaving a synagogue was punched repeatedly by multiple individuals in Portland, Oregon. A Jewish teen was attacked outside the Chabad headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. And we all remember the terrifying hostage situation at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, last January.
These are just three of thousands of antisemitic incidents last year as harassment, vandalism and violent assaults continue to climb throughout the nation. In 2022, antisemitic incidents surged to historic levels, with 3,697 incidents reported. That’s a staggering 36% jump from 2021 and by far the highest on record since ADL began tracking in 1979. In addition, the number of people in the U.S. with deep-seated belief in antisemitic tropes has nearly doubled since 2019.
Antisemitism is in all of our communities — acts of hate were reported in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. And the overwhelming truth is that no one can be safe until everyone is safe. The time to act is now before this rising tide of hatred claims more lives. Please give now to help ADL fight antisemitism and hate of all kinds.
Throughout 2022, a resurgence in white supremacist activity led to 852 incidents of hate, more than double what we saw in the previous year. And the many disturbing remarks of highly influential artist Ye (Kanye West) further normalized antisemitism, with dozens of incidents directly referencing him.
Acts of hate were followed with messages like “Kanye 2024,” “Kanye was right” and one caller asking a Jewish restaurant for “the Kanye special” before exclaiming, “Death to all the Jews.”
At a time like this, we cannot be silent. Will you help ADL fight back against hate today?
John, the numbers are horrifying and I know this increase in antisemitism and hate can feel disheartening. But we cannot give up the fight. With your support, ADL will continue to take decisive measures and call out antisemitism, discrimination and hate wherever we see it — in our communities, in our schools and online — to protect people from being attacked for no reason other than who we are, how we worship or who we love.
Your gift today supports this critical work.
Thank you for helping ADL fight against antisemitism and hate of all kinds.
Sincerely, |
