Omnibus Bill Update
Each committee?s omnibus budget bills are beginning to move through committees. For instance, today the Public Safety Committee is hearing their omnibus bill which contains several gun control proposals, namely HF 14 and HF 15, universal background checks and red flag laws (the bill can be read here [ [link removed] ]).

It appears that Democrats?may be attempting to protect their vulnerable members from voting for gun control by including them in a 300-page budget omnibus bill. There are multiple controversial proposals included in each budget bill, not to mention spending the entire $18 billion state surplus.
The Higher Education Committee is also hearing their omnibus bill today (which can be read here [ [link removed] ]). The committee was given a $650 million budget target over a base of $1.45 billion,?which you can read more about below, but here [ [link removed] ] is a spreadsheet of all of the proposed spending in the bill.
I will be voting no on these hundred-page, billion-dollar budget bills and continue working to make our government smaller and more fiscally responsible.

Budget Targets
Last week, Democrats unveiled their coordinated budget targets. These targets are spending targets given to each committee, and these targets are on top of the base budget of $52 billion. The House democrats, Senate democrats, and Governor all agreed to these targets without taking _any_ input from Republican leaders.
The budget targets show that democrats intends to spend an additional $17.9 billion and raise the base budget to a whopping $70 billion. You read that right, they will be spending the entire surplus, raising taxes to pay for it, and increasing government spending by an incredible 34%.

Further, this spending is set to increase in the tails (future biennial budget). The tails spend over $3 billion more than was projected to be a structural surplus which guarantees a deficit which is only resolved through either tax increases or spending reductions. If the Democrats keep total control of government, which do you think they will choose?
This level of increase is reckless and unsustainable. We need to give the surplus back to those who paid it instead of spending it and I will continue working to give the surplus back to the taxpayers by advocating for policies like the Social Security tax elimination from state income taxes.
Trans Refuge Bill
Last Friday, the Democrat Majority passed their ?transgender refuge? bill off the House floor. This bill aims to make Minnesota a sanctuary state for ?gender affirming care" for minors, which includes puberty blockers and irreversible surgeries like double mastectomies.
My issue with this bill is that it almost exclusively mentions children & families. This bill clearly is not aimed at consenting adults, it is aimed at children in other states whose families may not consent to their treatment. The bill has no age limits, does not require parental consent, no limitations on the types of treatment minors can receive and usurps parental rights by allowing a child to be brought to Minnesota by any concerned adult. (Does not have to be a parent or even a family member) to receive ANY treatment the child wants.
The issues above do not even touch on the constitutional conflicts and legal issues found in the bill. For those reasons and more, I voted no.
