This could be one of the most important environmental votes this year. The bill combines all of the worst anti-environment proposals from House Republicans into one horrific bill:

A massive increase in oil and gas drilling. Additional pipelines. Slashes to clean energy funding. And it guts the power of communities to push back on projects that affect them — while blocking Biden from being able to intervene.

This destructive bill does not offer real solutions to high energy costs, drives up the deficit, and would lock our nation into decades of dirty, volatile fossil fuels, perpetuate the climate crisis, and cut communities out of the process, particularly communities of color and low-wealth communities unfairly exposed to the most pollution from fossil fuels.

The U.S.’s transition to affordable, clean energy is already underway, thanks to the clean energy plan President Biden signed last year. This fossil fuel handout being considered by the House would reverse this progress — it’s the last thing families, communities, and future generations need.

And the truth is, it’s likely this dirty bill passes the House. Republicans have numbered this bill “H.R.1” — a signal that it is their number one legislative priority. With a narrow Republican majority in the House, they likely have the votes they need — but the Polluters over People Act should be dead on arrival in the Senate.
