** Are Traditional American Values in Decline?
------------------------------------------------------------
In Tennessee, reports ([link removed]) indicate that a 28-year-old woman, who identified as a transgender man, recently opened fire and killed three children and three adults at a private Christian school. This follows a recent shooting ([link removed]) at a Denver High School last week as well, though there were no casualties except the student.

These shootings reflect not only immense tragedy within a community and the country at large but reflects a growing loss of American values, including those of faith, family, community and more. For so many, hope seems foreign and far off.

A recent poll ([link removed]) commissioned by the Wall Street Journal and NORC shows those who report patriotism as being very important to them has dropped from 70% in 1998 to 38% in 2023. In regard to religion being an important aspect in American lives, that has dropped from 62% to 39% in the same time period. There’s also been severe drops in having children and community involvement, while the desire for money is ticking up.

It's not to say that faith or community involvement would solve every problem, but we do live in a growing society that seems to emphasize individuality to our own detriment, which increases feelings of loneliness and isolation. This is different to the post-Depression and post-World War II years, in which obligation to the community and close ties with neighbors was a way of life.

So, given this latest tragedy, perhaps it’s a moment to reach out to your neighbors, friends and the wider community of North Carolina. Let someone know that you care. You never know what impact you might have.

Have a wonderful week!

Brittany
