Dear John,

First, it was five extremist Justices on the Supreme Court ignoring decades of precedent in a clearly political quest to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Now, it’s one conservative judge in Texas with the power to make Mifepristone, an abortion medication the FDA approved decades ago that is safer than Tylenol, impossible to access across the country, including in states where abortion is legal. Attacks on medication abortion push care out of reach, especially for those who are young, Black and Brown, LGBTQ+, and working to make ends meet.

If these attempts to eliminate access to abortion feel exhausting and relentless— they are. And John, that’s the point. By launching attack after attack after attack on abortion rights, transgender kids, women—even beloved books by Black authors!—conservative extremists are playing a numbers game, confident they can force through their dangerous restrictions by throwing enough spaghetti at the wall until some of it sticks.

But for the past 50 years, the National Women’s Law Center has been fighting for gender justice, including abortion access, and we sure as hell aren’t about to stop now. Join us with a special gift of $50 by March 31, and we’ll send you a pair of "Abortion Always" socks so you can wear your commitment to abortion access proudly on your feet! [[link removed]]

Medication abortion is extremely safe, effective, and the most common method of abortion care in this country. Yet judge-shopping conservatives have set up a case trying to force Mifepristone, one of the two abortion medications, off the market. And this is just the latest in a cross-country attempt to make accessing abortion illegal, impossible, or both.
But John, we’re taking action.

The National Women’s Law Center has launched the Abortion Defense Network (ADN), along with five other leading reproductive rights organizations, to serve as a legal resource for abortion providers and supporters. And in the next few months, we’ll be launching the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund, which may be able to cover legal expenses—including attorneys’ fees and other costs—for patients as well as individuals and organizations that help people access abortion.

Your support [[link removed]] makes efforts like this possible, along with NWLC’s other critical legal, legislative, and grassroots work in support of a more equitable future for all —from protecting trans kids at school and pregnant people at work, to preserving affordable birth control and seeking justice for survivors of sexual assault. Every dollar you can give helps us be more effective in these fights—and for a very limited time, gifts of $50 or more will get you a pair of sweet “Abortion Always” socks to say thanks. Anti-abortion conservatives may think they can wear us out, but I know otherwise. When it comes to protecting abortion access, we are fired up —and ready to fight just as hard to make childcare more affordable, to finally close the pay gap, to keep our LGBTQ community safe, and so much more.

I know you’re right there with us, so if you can, pitch in with a special gift today. [[link removed]]

Thank you for all you do to support the fight for gender justice.

Sincerely,
