Rewrite the story

The daffodils are blooming and longer days are on the way, John. That can only mean one thing – spring has officially arrived.

Along with the warmer weather, the arrival of spring also means that Easter is just around the corner. For many people, Easter is synonymous with just one thing... Chocolate! But we know that if you’re living with diabetes, or supporting someone who is, food-focused holidays can also be a source of anxiety.

Living with diabetes doesn’t need to mean missing out so, if you’re planning to celebrate this April, we’ve gathered our top tips to make your Easter as enjoyable as possible - from the truth about 'diabetic chocolate' to our favourite seasonal recipes.

Wegovy: know the facts

The drug Wegovy has been approved for use in the NHS and you may be wondering what that means for you. Wegovy works as an appetite suppressant and, for this reason, it can be prescribed to people with prediabetes or type 2 diabetes as a weight-management tool. Prescription depends on a range of factors including your current treatment plan and the risk of side effects.

Feeling the heat

A new study, funded by us, has found that chillies could play a role in reducing foot pain by healing damaged nerves. It’s capsaicin – a molecule found in chillies, which has fired this research up. As well as giving chillies their spicy flavour, when applied to skin, capsaicin can also help to block pain signals from nerves, making them less sensitive to pain.

Fancy a hot cross bun?

While chocolate tends to steal the spotlight, for many of us, it just wouldn’t be Easter without at least one hot cross bun. And, what’s the only thing better than a hot cross bun? A homemade one, fresh from the oven, of course! For a little more fibre, our extra-fruity hot cross bun recipe uses wholemeal flour. These buns are also low in fat - a healthier twist on a seasonal classic.
