On March 18, thousands of people took action and ushered in a new phase in anti-war organizing in the United States. The powerful demonstration in front of the White House and the associated protests that took place in cities and towns in other regions across the country -- supported by hundreds of different organizations -- was the largest display yet of domestic opposition to the U.S. government's new Cold War strategy. Demonstrators carried flag-draped coffins symbolizing the victims of U.S. war and sanctions to the headquarters of the Washington Post and to the White House.
Protesters marched through the streets of Washington to demand money for people's needs, not the war machine and to denounce the constant U.S./NATO escalation that has brought the world to the brink of catastrophe over conflicts in Ukraine, Taiwan, and so many other parts of the world. As March 18 showed, a growing number of people in this country are rejecting war & empire, and the ANSWER Coalition will continue to work tirelessly to build this movement.
