CNN Contributor Accuses Whites of “Digital Blackface”

Spencer Brown: Apparently, white folks, “you may have inadvertently perpetuated one of the most insidious forms of contemporary racism” by engaging in “digital blackface,” a fringe-woke creation that surfaces from time to time but just received a big boost thanks to an apparently serious story from CNN…. More formally, Blake defines digital blackface as “a practice where White people co-opt online expressions of Black imagery, slang, catchphrases or culture to convey comic relief or express emotions” (Townhall). Clay Travis: I’d love to hear an explanation of how posting a gif or meme of a black person online is digital blackface, but a man dressing up like a woman in real life is heroic. Please explain cnn (Twitter). National Review: The world still has plenty of real worries, such as Russian dictator Vladimir Putin saying he intends to move some of Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons to neighboring Belarus. The bizarre prioritization of concerns leaves me wondering about what issues the media, and in particular social-media algorithms, want us to pay attention to and worry about (National Review).

Police Release Names of Victims, Shooter in Nashville School Shooting
NBC: The shooter who gunned down three children and three staff members at a Nashville Christian school on Monday was a former student who carefully planned the attack with detailed maps and surveillance. The shooter, Audrey Hale, 28, of Nashville, identified as transgender and had no previous criminal record (NBC). Daily Wire: Police have identified the six victims killed in a mass shooting at a Nashville Christian school, and they include three 9-year-old children and three adults 60 years old and above (Daily Wire). Andy Ngo: Audrey E. Hale, the 28-year-old woman who identifies as he/him and uses the name “Aiden,” is identified as the now-deceased suspect who shot up a Christian school in Tennessee, killing 6, including 3 children. The killings follow the state banning the medical transitioning of minors & adult cabaret (drag) performances in front of children (Twitter).

First Citizens Bank Acquires Silicon Valley Bank
Daily Wire: The FDIC revealed in a statement that the 17 branches of Silicon Valley Bank will be operated by First Citizens Bank as soon as Monday, while all depositors will automatically become account holders at the company. First Citizens Bank will purchase $72 billion of Silicon Valley Bank’s assets at a discount of $16.5 billion, while $90 billion will remain with the FDIC. First Citizens Bank, based in Raleigh, North Carolina, will assume management of $56 billion in Silicon Valley Bank deposits. The failure of Silicon Valley Bank cost the Deposit Insurance Fund, which is funded by fees on banks, an estimated $20 billion (Daily Wire). CNBC: The sale excludes investment securities, meaning the FDIC is stuck with SVB’s bonds that have dropped in value, and which helped spark the firm’s demise (CNBC).

Disney to Begin Massive Layoffs, Cut Content Spending
CNBC: Disney will begin layoffs this week, the first of three rounds before the beginning of the summer that result in about 7,000 job cuts. The cuts are part of a broader effort to reduce corporate spending and boost free cash flow. Disney said last month it plans to cut $5.5 billion in costs, including $3 billion in content spend (CNBC).

New First Minister of Scotland Goes on Anti-White Tirade in Speech
Robby Starbuck: This guy Humza Yousaf that was just made the Scottish National Party leader seems really mad that SCOTLAND is a white country. This is like me complaining about a lack of Latinos in China. How did SNP voters hear this and vote him leader of Scotland (Twitter)? Layah Heilpern: This is Scotland’s new leader. What’s the problem with white people? The UK is a white country. If Humza Yousaf doesn’t like white people he should leave. Funny no one complains about the lack of white representation in Africa, Asia or the Middle East (Twitter). Reuters: Scottish nationalists picked Humza Yousaf to be the country’s next leader on Monday after a bitterly fought contest that exposed deep divisions in his party over policy and a stalled independence campaign. The 37-year-old practicing Muslim succeeds Nicola Sturgeon as leader of the governing Scottish National Party (SNP) and will take over as head of the semi-autonomous government once he wins an approval vote in the Scottish parliament (Reuters).

Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Pumps the Breaks on Judicial Reform
National Review: Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has hit pause on a proposed judicial reform to allow more time for negotiations and “avoid civil war.” His comments come after a dramatic day in which hundreds of thousands of Israeli protesters on both sides of the issue poured into city squares and a nationwide strike shut down flights at Israel’s international airport. For months, Israelis have been debating a bill that would give the elected government the authority to appoint new judges and effectively reduce the power of the Israeli supreme court to strike down laws passed by the ruling majority (National Review). Daily Wire: Netanyahu, who is seeking to expand the Israeli parliament’s lawmaking authority by curbing the Supreme Court’s power, on Sunday fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who had called for a pause in the reforms. Leftist protesters, already whipped up over what they perceive to be a threat to Israeli democracy, reacted by blocking streets and bridges and lighting fires on roadways (Daily Wire).

Americans No Longer Value Patriotism, Religion
Wall Street Journal: Patriotism, religious faith, having children and other priorities that helped define the national character for generations are receding in importance to Americans, a new Wall Street Journal-NORC poll finds. Some 38% of respondents said patriotism was very important to them, and 39% said religion was very important. That was down sharply from when the Journal first asked the question in 1998, when 70% deemed patriotism to be very important, and 62% said so of religion (Wall Street Journal). New documentary looks at our “Irreligious Nation”: The questions of who and what to believe has caused many in the U.S., and the world, to lose faith in our institutions. Religion is no exception; we’re shifting ever closer to atheism or irreligion. In fact, the fastest growing religion is no religion at all (SalemNow).

Governor DeSantis Approves School Choice Bill
National Review: Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law on Monday that will expand school-choice vouchers to all students in the state. Speaking at an Catholic all-boys school in Miami, DeSantis hailed the move as a major and historic victory for school choice. House Bill 1 expands eligibility so that “a parent of a student may request and receive from the state a scholarship…if the student is a resident of this state and is eligible to enroll in kindergarten through grade 12 in a public school in this state.” The scholarships previously had income caps, but priority will still be given to students who are low-income (National Review). PJ Media: Florida is now the sixth state — all led by Republicans –to fund universal school choice, starting with Arizona in 2022. While the GOP has been smart on public education policy, it remains to be seen whether they can make it a winning issue with urban voters whose kids are often trapped in utterly failed public schools (PJ Media).

California Government Refuses to Acknowledge We Are Out of the Drought
Los Angeles Times: Gov. Gavin Newsom came close but couldn’t quite bring himself to say it: The drought’s over. It’s disappointing when a governor won’t acknowledge what ordinary citizens already know because they can see things for themselves. Another drought will emerge soon enough. It always does. That’s the California pattern — climate change or not. But right now, the biggest threat this spring is flooding from rivers leaping their banks. There’s just something about California governors and water officials that prevents them from admitting we’re through a dry spell and into a wet period. They fear we’ll resume taking long showers and swamping our lawns. We’ll stop conserving water and go back to wasting it. So, they treat us like children, denying the obvious (Los Angeles Times).

Novak Djokovic Still Unable to Enter US Due to His Vaccination Status
Wall Street Journal: Novak Djokovic isn’t playing at the Miami Open this week. The Serbian tennis star is unwelcome in the U.S. because he hasn’t been vaccinated against Covid. Although he had the virus in 2020, he was famously deported from Australia in January 2022 for the same reason—but he claimed the men’s singles title in this year’s Australian Open. The U.S. is alone among developed countries in continuing to demand proof of Covid vaccination from visitors. Mr. Djokovic, who would also have needed a visa to enter the U.S., opted not to play in Miami when the Biden administration refused his request for an exemption from the vaccine requirement. (Wall Street Journal). James Melville: “Because the principles of decision making on my body are more important than any title.” -Novak Djokovic. And unfathomably, he is still banned from entering America (Twitter).

Mike Gallagher ponders the motives and strategy — or just plain stupidity — of the Trump arrest rumored to be coming down this week

Mike Gallagher: There’s no way they’re this stupid. There is no way they’re going to indict him this week on some bogus misdemeanor charge that they’re trying to trump up and make it into a felony. There’s no way. I know they’re not bright. I know they’re completely oblivious to how...
