BREAKING:  Sen. Joni Ernst Admits GOP is Using Impeachment Trial to Do Trump's
Dirty Work!

PFAW Member,

The 'defense' being presented by Trump's legal team in his Senate
impeachment trial is nothing short of a complete farce.

But not according to Trump's Republican mouthpieces in the Senate...

Exhibit A: Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa.

Ernst – who is up for re-election this year in a state where Trump's
approval ratings are under water – asserts, "The White House has done a
brilliant job of shredding the House managers' case."

And she even just went a step farther than most others in her party by
giving away the GOP's true motivations. Yesterday, Ernst grabbed onto Team
Trump’s heavy focus on the Ukraine conspiracy theories put out by Trump
and Rudy Giuliani regarding Joe Biden and his son:

"Iowa caucuses are this next Monday evening. And I'm really interested to
see how this discussion today informs and influences the Iowa caucus
voters … those Democratic caucus goers. Will they be supporting Vice
President Biden at this point?"

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) correctly pointed out that it's become
"crystal clear" that "Trump is trying to use the trial to do what Ukraine
wouldn't – destroy his political rivals."

And now Joni Ernst is gleefully carrying Trump’s water and, as Kaili Joy
Gray of The American Independent put it, is "screaming the quiet part into
a bullhorn!"

Sen. Ernst is clearly not doing her job and taking this process seriously.
And she is showing incredible disdain for the voters in her state by
echoing these false narratives and hoping that Iowans will be taken in by
Team Trump’s circus.

TODAY, Iowa PFAW members joined our organizers for grassroots protests
outside of Sen. Ernst’s Des Moines and Cedar Rapids offices to demand that
she vote to hear witnesses and support a fair trial – NOT a cover up.

A Common Dreams headline this morning read, “Sen. Joni Ernst Admits GOP
Using Impeachment Trial to Damage Biden in 2020.”

The local politics website Iowa Starting Line said of Ernst, "Not only is
she giving away their party’s cynical game on impeachment, she’s making
herself look like a fool in the process."

We’re not going to let her – or them – get away with it.

A crucial vote will happen late this week to determine whether or not the
Senate will allow witness testimony in the Trump impeachment trial …
testimony from witnesses like John Bolton, who, the New York Times
reports, has written that Trump told him the hold-up in military aid for
Ukraine was tied to a public announcement by the Ukrainian government of
an investigation into the Bidens.

And it sure looks like Joni Ernst is signaling that she has NO intention
of upholding her oath of office and supporting a fair trial with witnesses
and evidence.
