I just got out of a meeting with my campaign team and wanted to share a few takeaways with you.

Where we stand: This Friday is our first end-of-quarter deadline of this campaign. Right now we’re still very short of our $50,000 goal. If you can afford to donate right now, here is the link.

Why this goal matters: As you know, this goal is a big deal because if our fundraising numbers are low, it sends a bright flashing light to our brand new GOP opponent and to national Republicans that we’re in trouble. It also directly impacts some big budget decisions we have coming up.

What decisions we need to make: One of our strategic advantages last cycle was how early we invested in grassroots organizing. It meant we spoke to voters, especially our latino voters, early and often (and in-language). I absolutely want to make that early field investment again. However, all that hiring revolves around if we hit this end of quarter goal.

Other considerations: Outside money is always a huge threat in this toss-up seat. We have to have the budget to match the Republicans dollar for dollar in fundraising in order to combat their onslaught of ads. If they spend $500,000 on attack ads against me, we have to spend $500,000 back. It’s that simple.

What I need from this team: Well, I need your help hitting tonight's fundraising goal! If we fall short, the GOP will have a huge advantage because we won’t be able to get our field organizing started or have enough resources to fight back against negative ads.
