Dear John,

Health Affairs Editor-in-Chief Alan Weil recently joined joined Susan Morse, executive editor of Health Care Finance News, on an episode of HIMSSCast to discuss health care spending and growth in the US. Listen to the podcast here.
Trust During COVID-19
In their March Health Affairs article, Gillian SteelFisher and coauthors explore trust in public health agencies during the pandemic using a first-of-its-kind nationally representative survey of 4,208 US adults.

The authors find that about 42 percent of those surveyed reported a great deal of trust in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and about a third said the same for their state and local public health departments.

Those with higher levels of trust in public agencies cited adherence to scientifically valid research and expert staff as reasons for trust, whereas lower levels of trust in these agencies were related to beliefs that agency policies were influenced by politics or the private sector.

SteelFisher and coauthors conclude that public health agencies must have a robust communication infrastructure to disseminate science-based recommendations.
