Dear Friends and Neighbors,

This coming Sunday April 2nd, many will be celebrating The Triumphal Entry (also known as Palm Sunday), the day Christ rode into the City of Jerusalem presenting himself as Messiah. It’s known Christ entered Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives so it’s nearly certain Christ entered Jerusalem through the Eastern Gate. I took the picture seen below of the Eastern Gate (indicated by the arrow) in 2010 while I was standing on the Mount of Olives looking west across the Kidron Valley at the eastern wall of Jerusalem. The edge of the Garden of Gethsemane can be seen near the extreme lower right corner of the picture.

DEMOCRATS DEMAND GUN CONTROL

Truth, facts, and history demonstrate one irrefutable conclusion: MORE GUNS IN THE HANDS OF LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS = LESS CRIME. Those cities and states across our country with the most gun-control laws are among the same most unsafe cities and states with the highest rates of crime. Parading a full rejection of reality for all to observe, the Senate Democrat majority held a marathon hearing last week on multiple gun control bills in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Unalienable rights originate from God, our Creator. Among our unalienable rights bestowed to each individual by God/Creator is the right to self-defense. The purpose of human government is to secure the blessings of our God-given liberties, hence the Constitution that formed our great Republic. Our rights are affirmed and protected by the Constitution but originate from the author of all liberty, God. Since unalienable rights do not source from human government, government does not have the legal authority to infringe upon unalienable rights. Our Founding Fathers understood this and sought to make it very clear with the Second Amendment that firearm ownership is an individual right that shall not be infringed.

While Democrats continue stepping on the Constitution in pursuit of their gun-control foolishness, I will continue to be among those on the front lines in the ongoing battle for truth, Constitutional values, and the unalienable rights of law-abiding citizens!

Sen. Lucero with Rep. Hudson Friday last week visiting New Horizon Academy in Saint Michael. “I was very impressed with the dedicated professional staff during our visit-tour as we continue fighting for children and for working parents,” Lucero said.

The truthful answer to the above headline is an undeniable YES! Abusive government stealing money from some to redistribute to others and increasing the money supply via printing currency out of thin air are among actions that directly cause inflation. The real solution to the budget surplus is to enact deep, permanent tax cuts and sending money back to those who overpaid.

DEMOCRATS DEMAND EXPONENTIAL GOVERNMENT GROWTH

Last week Democrats announced their plan to grow government by 38%, exhausting the entirety of our $17.5B surplus. MN state government is funded in 2-year budget cycles. The previous budget was $52B and the Democrat trifecta is demanding the next budget be a crushing $72B.

The explosive growth in government spending is unsustainable. I speak to individuals each week who are planning to leave Minnesota permanently due to Democrats gone wild with other people's money.

PROTECT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE

The Electoral College is a critically important mechanism to protect our Republic. Despite this truth, Democrats in Minnesota are pushing for National Popular Vote (NPV) to undermine the Electoral College. In Minnesota, we award our slate of Presidential Electors based on the outcome of the popular vote within our state. NPV is being pushed by those seeking to undermine Federalism, local control, and individual state sovereignty by changing our awarding Presidential Electors to the winner of the popular vote nationally. NPV must absolutely be rejected.

As a strong supporter of the Constitutional framework our Founding Fathers architected, I support our Republic form of government rather than the Direct Democracy form of government our Founding Fathers were trying to prevent. In a Democracy, sovereignty belongs to the majority which can impose its unrestrained Will on the minority. In a Republic, voters elect people to represent the majority within a district but sovereignty belongs to individuals and the majority cannot violate inalienable rights of the minority which are protected by the Constitution. Our Republic form of government is based on checks, balances, and separation of power in order to protect against a tyranny of the majority over the rights of the minority and is the basis upon why the framers of the Constitution gave us the Electoral College.

Because the United States is a construct of fifty separate and individual units of government, the election of President is a compilation of fifty individual elections held within each respective state. The Electoral College serves an extremely important function by acting as a check against the tyranny of the majority by creating a weighted system of indirect representatives tasked with selecting our President. The Electoral College is similar in concept to the weighted system of two US Senators apportioned to each state regardless of population density of the state. This model creates a weighted system to act as a check to the people's body (House of Representatives) that is apportioned based on population density.

I will continue to be a strong supporter of the Electoral College our Founding Fathers gave us and I do not support the concept of a direct Democracy or national popular vote to elect our President.
