Dear Friend,
Republicans in Congress have overturned one DC law. Now they're trying to overturn more. The values that the DC JWJ community fights for every day are under attack when Congress undermines our autonomy.
On Wednesday, March 29, DC Councilmembers are being called before the U.S. House Oversight Committee to get grilled about DC laws that are already in place. This threatens the rights and safety of everyone who lives here.
Overturning DC’s laws will not make us safer — and the Oversight Committee needs to hear that from us. Join DC JWJ and the #HandsOffDC Coalition for a March to the Hearing on Wednesday, March 29, starting at 8:00am:
Meet us at Seward Square (at the intersection of Pennsylvania Ave. and North Carolina Ave. SE) to get signs and banners, and rally before marching down Pennsylvania Avenue to the Congressional office building where the hearing will take place.
We’ll plan to fill the hallways around the hearing room to greet members of Congress and our DC Councilmembers on their way into the hearing that morning.
We want this event to be full of joy and all the things that make DC the abundant community we love. Bring signs, banners, drums, noisemakers, or anything that shows off your DC pride and come ready to have a great time with a few hundred of your DC neighbors.
Overturning DC's local laws threatens the rights and safety of everyone who lives here. It will not make us safer.
Join us on Wednesday, March 29 to make sure Congress hears that directly from us.
In solidarity,
Sequnely Gray
