John,
In Congress, I'm working to make our community safe, just, and secure while tackling the rising cost of living, extremist attacks on health care, and the impact of climate change on the South Sound.
Your feedback is invaluable to me and my team, and I welcome your thoughts on what’s important to you. It’s never been more crucial for us to stay in close communication, and I look forward to hearing your ideas.
There are a few things I want to share with you this month:
I am honored to be named chair of the New Democrat Coalition’s National Security Task Force. As the daughter of an Army veteran, I take my responsibility to advocate for service members, veterans, and military families seriously. I will work across the aisle to ensure that our values, and New Dem priorities, are reflected in national security policy.
I introduced a bill to protect access to reproductive health care. This bill secures the right for individuals to cross state lines to seek safe and legal reproductive health care without criminal penalties. I strongly support the right to choose and will continue to stand in the way of any extremist attempt to restrict access to reproductive health care.
As Co-Chair of the Puget Sound Recovery Caucus, I’m proud to see the PUGET SOS Act signed into law. Many don’t know that Puget Sound provides hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in economic impact. Thanks to this legislation, it is now getting the recognition and protection it deserves as one of our nation's great marine ecosystems.
To address climate change, I’m working to reinstate emission standards and protections for public lands by advocating for programs designed to track the health and environmental impact of pollution – particularly among underserved communities.
March is Women’s History Month, a celebration of the contributions women have made to our nation’s progress. I’m thankful for the brave women who blazed the trail ahead of me, like my mother and the many women leaders who made it possible for me to represent you in Congress. We still have a lot of work to do. I firmly believe that women shouldn’t have to lobby Congress for reproductive freedom or equal pay.
In case you missed it, I put together a playlist for February’s Black history month celebration with a few of my favorite songs from talented musicians in Black history. Listen to the playlist here and please share it with your friends and family in celebration of the tremendous contributions Black Americans have made to our great nation!
It’s a pleasure to represent WA-10 in Congress. I am grateful for your continued support and I hope that you will take me up on the offer to correspond with you.
