Of all the terrible aspects of Donald Trump’s presidency, his foreign policy has proven to be one of the most dangerous.

A few weeks ago, Trump took us to the brink of war when he decided to kill Iranian major general Qasem Soleimani, despite dire warnings against it from his closest advisors. And right now, Trump is being tried in the U.S. Senate after being impeached in the House because of his disastrous scheme to shakedown the president of Ukraine in order to get dirt on a political rival.

These are just two examples of a foreign policy that puts Trump’s personal interests above those of the American people and places our national security at risk.

Democrats in Congress are working to rein in Trump’s power and stand up as a co-equal branch of government. We recently passed a resolution requiring the president to seek consent from Congress before taking military action against Iran. This week we'll take another consequential vote, to reinstate Congress' vital role in authorizing wars, by repealing the outdated authorization of military force from nearly two decades ago.
