Fox News recently invited me to appear and speak with Rachel Campos-Duffy about how I escaped North Korea.
 

The first time I tried to escape the regime, I was only 6 years old as we fled over a mountain. My mother even had to carry me in her backpack as she held my sister’s hand and swum across a river into China.

But we were caught and sent back. This happened several times...

In North Korea, it is easy for the government to control everyone through starvation. From the moment I woke up to the moment I went to sleep, all I could think about was my next meal. That’s all anyone could think about. 

That’s only a small part of my story. 

Thanks to the Dissident Project, I can share my story with students across the country. The Dissident Project provides high schools with informed, intelligent speakers with firsthand experience with authoritarianism, like me.

Socialism is the worse government in the world. It kills people.

High school students need to hear about the horrors of socialism and how it takes away everything and everyone you love. They don’t know what it feels like to lay there, starving. Or how the government will punish you for merely doing whatever you can to survive.

Many students today think socialism is fair and equitable. Without hearing about experiences like mine, they will never have the chance to know about the true horrors until it’s too late.

Freedom is very precious in the United States, so we are responsible for protecting it for the future.
