Liz Willen Dear reader,

In my travels, I often hear that higher education is on the defensive. Consider the title of the conference I’m attending in Los Angeles this week: Reclaiming Public Trust in Admissions and Higher Education ([link removed]) .

Naturally, much of the conversation is inspired by the Varsity Blues scandal ([link removed]) that confirmed a truth about elite college admissions: Money matters. Two messages I’ve heard repeatedly here: Higher education must do a better job telling its story, in the wake of the scandal and amid escalating tuition costs. The second is that there’s an urgent need for transparency. That’s why I’m highlighting The Hechinger Report’s recent Tuition Tracker tool ([link removed]) and related articles. Give the tool a look and tell us what you’ve learned.
