Every day, I’m reminded of the fact that I stand on the shoulders of those before me. I am the daughter of a newspaperman and a teacher, and the granddaughter of an iron ore miner who saved his money in a coffee can in the basement to send my dad to college. No one expected me to run for elected office – and not many people expected me to win either.
