It’s officially Spring, y’all, and we’re using this season of growth to sow those fertile seeds of abortion activism. Our founder and all around badass Lizz Winstead was boppin’ around greater Boston last week talking with the law students of dope AAF board member (and HAVAAD Law professor) Dr. Michele Goodwin, and then it was over to Northeastern University, laying out to feminist activists and academics how to use activism as self-care, including Robin Marty- the tireless owner of the West Alabama Women’s Center! They're helping patients in the rural south navigate all kinds of reproductive hurdles, so drop a few bucks in their coffers this week if you've got some! Also- lots of Big Glasses Energy happening here…

Why do we need activism as self-care, you ask? BECAUSE OF WYOMING, Y’ALL, whose Governor signed into law an outright ban abortion pills, BFFs Mifepristone and Misoprostol, for the first time EVER. It’s a huge, unprecedented, calculated decision to circumvent the Department of Justice’s positive ruling on mailing the pills to anyone. Good news is, they got owned by their own bullshit. The Wyoming Supreme Court BLOCKED this hellacious law because of an amendment created BY CONSERVATIVES out of their fear of OBAMACARE, which says, "each competent adult shall have the right to make his or her own health care decisions.” BAM! OWNED!

In more unfortunate WHAT THE FUCK alarming trends, Ohio will not be outdone. Following in the steps of Mississippi (where you just can’t have a ballot initiative on abortion) and Tennessee (where there are no citizen-initiated constitutional amendments unless you're an elected official), Ohio lawmakers have not only introduced raising the threshold to pass a state constitutional amendment from 50% plus one vote to 60%, but to hold the vote on it during a special August election…you know, coincidentally right before Ohioans are set to potentially vote on the amendment proposal, ‘The Right to Reproductive Freedom with Protections for Health and Safety’. Gee, we wonder why they’re ramming this through…what a mystery…

What ISN’T a mystery is if y’all are going to stand up and fight back, because we have a plethora of opportunities for you on our Activist Calendar!
