The rise of generative AI cannot come at the expense of our children.

Folks: For nearly twenty years, Big Tech has worked without any regulations — writing their own rules to fulfill their commercial interests, with almost no regard for public safety or wellbeing.

The public introduction of AI-powered chatbots and the rush to integrate them into our social media platforms pose a real threat to younger users. The race to deploy generative AI cannot come at the expense of our children.

Social media's youngest users are at an earlier stage of cognitive, emotional, and intellectual development, making them more impressionable, impulsive, and less equipped to distinguish fact from fiction. It's not difficult to see the risk of exposing our children to chatbots that have a history of engaging in verbal abuse and suggested self-harm.

We’ve seen how these platforms have not only accelerated mental health crises in our children — especially among teenage girls — but how tyrants and extremists of the world have used social media as a powerful tool for mass manipulation.

It’s past time to reel in the digital platforms that hold such great power over our health, our economy, and our democracy. If you agree, add your name to my petition calling on Congress to regulate Big Tech today:

Last year, I introduced the first-ever legislation in Congress to create an expert federal watchdog for Big Tech to support parents and their children, and create common-sense rules to protect the health and well-being of all Americans.

The Digital Platform Commission Act would create a Federal Digital Platform Commission to regulate digital platforms, protect consumers, promote competition, and defend the public interest, and today, I’d like you to sign on as a citizen co-sponsor.

What we do to rein in Big Tech now will set the stage to hold these companies accountable for the next 20 years. I’m working on that now, but I need your help to make it happen.

Team, if you agree that our government should place common-sense regulations on Big Tech, add your name next to mine and call on Congress to pass my Digital Platform Commission Act >>

As always, thank you for your support, team,
