And here’s the thing — while the amount we’re able to raise ultimately does matter (a lot), what matters just as much right now is how many people are able to pitch in at all, whether they give $50 or $5.

Because when the FEC publishes its report after the first quarter ends, that “total number of donors” number is a critical one. It shows just how much grassroots support Sara has behind her, and can be a factor in all kinds of other things, from media coverage to future fundraising ability to the opposition field.
