[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy
I am reaching out to ask you to contribute to my re-election, but first, I thought I owed it to you to explain why this deadline (as opposed to many fake deadlines that candidates scream about) is important, and why I need your help.
Right after March 31, I need to report how much money I raised during the first three months of this year. This will be the first public fundraising report of my re-election, and lots of people are going to pay attention to it.
I don’t want to leave any room for Senate Republicans or the gun lobby to think that I’m vulnerable and put this seat in play for 2024. So I want to show that I’ve got a huge foundation of grassroots donors ready to get me to the finish line next fall.
Look, I wish I didn’t have to ask you to give today. Truly. It’s the worst part of my job, but these Senate races are just so expensive. There’s no way around it, but I believe that doing this the right way makes elected officials and our party more responsive to the people.
If you can, please consider making a donation of whatever you can afford before Friday’s FEC deadline. I cannot do this alone. It makes a difference.

Please know that I would not make this ask if it wasn’t so important. Unlike a lot of my colleagues in Washington, I really try to raise money the right way. My campaign is powered 100% by people — not a dime of PAC or corporate money.
That wouldn’t be possible without you, so thank you again for having my back.
Every best wish,
Chris Murphy
