John, t he power of ballot initiatives has proven time and time again that the majority of Americans agree on issues.
Don't believe us? Take a look at Michigan. They fought their way through to fair maps, which ultimately led to opening up more districts, and now they have a solid Blue state.
From the AP : "While Democrats...won a majority of votes in 2018 and 2020, Republicans won majorities in the Legislature. The difference [in the 2022 midterms]: Candidates ran in new districts drawn by a citizens commission instead of ones crafted by Republican lawmakers that were designed to help keep their party in power."
The beginning of the fight to put an end to gerrymandering began with a ballot initiative . Ballot initiatives work to give the option for voters to voice their opinion on numerous broad topics, like reproductive healthcare, or something local like liquor sales.
Ballot initiatives are a form of direct democracy and it's a way to not only improve voter turnout but allow voters to speak on their everyday concerns.
The procedures and possibilities vary by state and even by county in some areas. This is why organizing infrastructure like ROCC is so critical. Sharing successful techniques through clear, concise documentation and following that up with direct consultation between organizers is a means by which we can benefit from one another's experience and success.
Right now ROCC has developed an 11-point procedure in Wisconsin and is sharing it with partners to power a strategy in that battleground state in 2024. We also have partners in Texas on the ground expanding on a successful strategy to use ballot initiatives in municipalities across Congressional District 15 to use the technique to flip that seat. And we're powering a strategy in Florida to lead change in that state directly on the issues that enjoy wide majority support.
John , will you help us continue to develop the infrastructure needed to launch more of these effective non-partisan drives we can leverage to win more blue seats in Congress? [[link removed]]
