Dear Neighbor,
Our servicemembers sacrifice so much to keep us safe. They deserve to be greeted like heroes when they return home.
Sadly, many Vietnam veterans were met with hostility rather than appreciation for their service.
It is time we right that historic wrong.
That is why I am introducing a resolution to establish ‘Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day’ nationwide.
This resolution will finally give our Vietnam veterans the recognition they are owed—and it is supported by my colleagues on both sides of the aisle.
I have been fighting to make this a reality since I was first elected to Congress. After meeting with Sergeant Jose Ramos, a Purple Heart recipient and Whittier resident who was a powerful advocate for Vietnam veterans, I knew I had to act.
Sergeant Ramos passed away in 2017, but his legacy lives on with this legislation and with the newly renamed Jose G. Ramos Post Office in Whittier.
I led the charge to rename the post office in his honor, and last year, I joined veterans and members of the Ramos family to make it official.
I am proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution. I will keep fighting to ensure our veterans and their families are treated with respect and dignity.
Because our veterans deserve nothing less.
Sincerely,
Linda T. Sánchez Member of Congress
