John,
The Biden administration is proposing a policy that would unlawfully deny asylum to people at the southern border by forcing them to seek asylum in Mexico, or another country they passed through, unless they are granted a date and time to apply through the *flawed* Customs and Border Patrol One mobile application.
As a presidential candidate, President Biden, members of Congress, and the American public decried the unlawful asylum bans issued by then-President Donald Trump. Now, the Biden administration is proposing a similar asylum ban and considering a family detention policy at our southern border.
We’re fighting back, uplifting the voices of our immigrants rights allies. As Naureen Shah from the ACLU said following the recent rally in Washington, DC:
“We, and the many people who gathered at the Washington Monument and virtually today, shouldn’t have to hold [President Biden’s] feet to the fire to ensure he doesn’t revive brutal policies he directly condemned. He knows exactly how much harm these policies will cause to children and families, if implemented.”

John,
From public rallies to official comment submissions, we’re rallying with our immigrant rights allies, opposing the proposed asylum ban and family detention policies being considered by the Biden administration.
Under Biden’s proposal, migrants who do not schedule an appointment at a U.S. border port of entry or use humanitarian programs available to certain nationalities would be ineligible for asylum except in certain cases.
At last week’s rally at the Washington Monument, Bilal Askaryar, Campaign Manager for #WelcomeWithDignity, said Biden is “moving to block the most vulnerable refugees from seeking asylum in the United States because they arrived on foot instead of on a plane.” And there have been disturbing reports that the Biden administration is considering resuming the use of family detention facilities he had previously opposed.
We’re fighting back against asylum bans and family detention. These are exactly the policies that President Biden campaigned against -- and we’re working alongside our immigrants rights partners to hold him accountable.
Chip in $5 to fight for humane immigration policies and to hold President Biden accountable to his campaign promises.

Already, more than 25,000 comments have been submitted in opposition to the proposed asylum ban. And, at last week’s rally, allies carried signs that read “No Asylum Ban, No Family Detention” and “Biden: Detainer in Chief” -- flanked by teddy bears held in steel cages.
The Biden administration's embrace of these cruel and racist policies “favor wealthy and white immigrants, and leave Black and Brown immigrants out of the asylum process,” according to Gustavo Torres, Executive Director of CASA.
As a nation of immigrants, we must keep fighting to ensure all are welcome here. And while we support many of the Biden administration’s initiatives, we follow our conscience. We stand with immigrant rights.
