Legislative Update

Friends and Neighbors,

This week started with some great visitors to the capitol. I had the opportunity to meet with some school board members from across the district who were at the capitol to share their concerns on the education mandates that have been passing through committee. Local control is a much better way to handle education as solutions should address each school and student?s unique situation.

National Agriculture Day was Tuesday and I had the opportunity to speak with a number of farmers and those in the ag industry. The Farm Bureau and Association of Wheat Growers were at the capitol to discuss some of the challenges their members are planning for this coming season. Agriculture makes up a significant portion of our state's economy and we should be supporting them at the capitol as much as they support all of Minnesota.

Protect Kids

Thank you to those concerned for the Protection of the Kids showing up and expressing your freedoms in our state Capitol. Appreciate the prayers, emails, phone calls, and those across the nation in opposition to HF146. Our kids need protection, space, and love through adolescence, not life-altering surgeries, mutilation, sterilization, and lack of time to grow up and make adult choices when they are adults.?

While ultimately the bill was still passed our members and supporters did an amazing job of putting the democrats on notice that this is not a policy that Minnesotans support. The speaker even went so far as to try and lock the doors of the house floor so that members would not be able to greet anyone in the rotunda that was at the capitol to protest this bill. I pray the senate will come to their senses as this bill heads over to the other body.

Budget Targets

This week Governor Walz along with Speaker Hortman and Senate President Champion unveiled their budget targets that include a 17.9 billion dollar net increase over the previous budget. This means the state would spend nearly $72 billion in the next two-year budget cycle. This will spend through the entire surplus and then some. Unfortunately, this aggressive budget doesn't even address some of the biggest issues our state is facing right now. Important infrastructure like roads and bridges is hardly addressed and agriculture sees notably little attention in this framework while there are massive increases for their special interests.

Back in District

I had so much fun attending the Christian Deer Hunters Association expo. Talking with a number of avid hunters and second amendment supporters was refreshing after the weeks of hearing from democrats at the capitol about their intrusive gun bills. I also had such an enjoyable time playing the games they had set up. Last weekend?s McLoud County BPOU convention went great, I had a wonderful time getting to speak with everyone and hear about the issues that are most important to you. Share what issues are most important to you.
