Some exciting news: we just launched our brand new podcast, The X-Ray with Fernando Espuelas.
The X-Ray is a fresh take on American political power: Who wants it? Who wields it? And why? Every Thursday, host Fernando Espuelas engages power players, newsmakers, and experts in wide-ranging conversations, exploring political power and providing listeners with insightful analysis and commentary of the biggest issues facing American democracy.
Fernando is a political journalist in Washington, D.C., who specializes in covering power. He has hosted political TV and radio programs on Univision and other networks. Fernando has interviewed iconic political figures such as Joe Biden, Barack Obama, John McCain, Gavin Newsom, Lindsey Graham, Newt Gingrich, and Nancy Pelosi, and has been a commentator on a variety of networks, including CBS, CNN, NPR, MSNBC, and Fox News.
The first two episodes of The X-Ray dropped this week — and they will not disappoint.
Sarah Longwell, publisher of The xxxxxx and host of hit The Focus Group podcast, joined Fernando to discuss the current state of the Republican Party, trends she's seeing emerging from the 2022 midterms, and signals of what voters are really thinking about the pivotal 2024 election.
In Episode 2, Fernando talked with Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a professor of history at New York University and author of the bestseller “Strongmen: Mussolini To The Present,” in a wide-ranging conversation about the very real threat of authoritarianism to American democracy.
Also, check out the second half of Episode 2 to hear the first “X-Ray Vision” interview — a fun and unexpected look at the real person behind the political title. Former Chairman of the Republican Party and political pundit Michael Steele joins the podcast for a conversation that will most likely surprise you. Spoiler alert: he favors Bourbon over Scotch.
