Legislative Victories

Georgia enacted SB 140 to protect children suffering from gender confusion from the long-term damages of experimental surgeries and drugs. The Georgia General Assembly took important steps to strengthen SB 140, and we look forward to working alongside grassroots Georgians to go further in the future to make sure children are treated with care, not as science experiments.

Missouri is also taking action to protect children. On Thursday, the state Senate passed SB 49 to prevent harm to children by preventing physicians from performing experimental surgeries and administering cross-sex hormones and puberty blockers.

Matt Crouch, Heritage Action’s Missouri State Director, wrote an op-ed on the driving factors pushing for experimental drugs and surgeries targeted at children.. In short, junk science is being used to push disordered ideology, and to drive profits for pharmaceutical and medical service providers.

Currently, at least 21 states are considering similar legislation. This legislation is facing fierce opposition from the Left. Hearing from you can give representatives needed courage to support and fight for these important bills. So make sure they hear from you as well!

Florida led the way this week in education freedom. The Florida legislature passed HB 1 to expand eligibility for Florida’s Education Savings Accounts (ESA) to all K-12 students.

ESA’s expand education freedom by tying government education dollars to students, not to schools. This empowers parents to spend the money on the education that is best for their children, rather than being locked into a one-size-fits all system where your zip code dictates the education experience.

The bill now goes to Governor Ron DeSantis’s desk and he is expected to sign it into law.

Kentucky became the first state to pass fiduciary duty legislation that protects working families’ investments from being used as a political weapon by the Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) agenda.

ESG investors put politics before the interests of their investors. But in Kentucky, investors’ responsibility to act in the best financial interests of their clients has been enshrined in law.

Border Security—We are three months into the 118th Congress and House Republicans are under pressure to deliver on their campaign promise to pass a bill to secure the border. Grassroots Americans are right to demand accountability from the Republican House that promised to take action to end Biden’s border crisis as part of their Commitment to America.

Biden’s open border has allowed over 6 million illegal immigrants from over 160 countries to illegally cross the southern border. It has opened the floodgates for fentanyl to pour into our communities, killing 70,601 Americans in 2021 alone. And all the while, the American taxpayer is losing $151 billion a year to people who broke our laws to be here.

Blocking Bad Biden Nominees—The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulates all aspects of civil aviation in the United States and surrounding international waters. It is important that whoever leads the FAA has the highest qualifications. Yet Biden nominated Phil Washington, someone who has no experience in the world of aviation, to become the FAA Administrator

Heritage Action took swift action to engage on his nomination and was able to help postpone the vote to report his confirmation from committee.

Only the highest quality candidates with relevant experience should lead administrative agencies, especially ones that regulate an industry where mistakes cost lives.

Countering the Threat of Communist China—The Chinese Communist Party is the most persistent and consequential foreign threat facing the American people today. For months, The Heritage Foundation has been working diligently on a comprehensive set of policy recommendations that would maintain America's edge on the rising threat of Communist China.
