FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Guemes Ferry Service Update for March 30
On Thursday, March 30, the Guemes Island Ferry will be shut down between approximately 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to conduct the 5-year United States Coast Guard (USCG) inspection to maintain the vessel's Certificate of Inspection (COI).
The last run before shutting down service on March 30 will be at 10:45 a.m. Ferry crew will do their best to return to service as soon as the inspection is complete.
We estimate returning to service at 1:30 p.m. that afternoon.
Passenger-only service will not be provided during this time as the vessel will remain in the Anacortes slip for the inspection.
The ferry must undergo an annual USCG inspection to maintain the vessel's COI, which is good for 5 years. The vessel's current 5-year COI expires April 13, 2023. The inspection on March 30 will renew the COI for another 5 years.
The ferry just returned from a 3-week haul-out and maintenance period, during which time the vessel completed an internal structural exam and dry dock credit, also required to maintain the COI. Those inspections are different than the one being conducted on March 30. The 5-year inspection cannot be done during dry dock.
