Thursday on MSNBC’s Alex Wagner Tonight ([link removed]) , Rep. Jamie Raskin ([link removed]) (D-MD) said that the Republican Party had “turned into a messianic cult of personality around” former President Trump.
When asked about House Republicans requesting that Manhattan D.A. Alvin Bragg ([link removed]) testify, Raskin said, “It’s clearly an attempt to elevate Donald Trump completely above the law, completely above the Constitution. And that’s what’s so scary about this.”
He continued, “That is what is so scary about this. The GOP has turned into a messianic cult of personality around one guy who has proven himself to be a one-man crime wave, and they have all wrapped themselves in their careers, their destinies around Donald Trump.”
Not true on a number of levels, not least of which is the claim that Trump has “proven” to be a criminal. Democrats have obsessed for years over trying to pin something, anything on Trump and come up empty-handed every time. He’s been out of office for two years now and they’re still obsessed with taking him down.
Raskin added, “The emperor has no clothes at any level. During the impeachment trial, the rhetoric of all the Republicans was, ‘Well, if there is a real problem, you don’t need to impeach and convict him. Just prosecute him when he leaves office.’ That’s fine. Now all the prosecutors are saying that there are these criminal offenses we want to investigate and they’re saying, ‘How dare you prosecute a former president. Someone that’s put himself forward to run for president again.’ They will devise any argument to try to guarantee the total immunity and impunity of one Donald Trump.”
What hypocrisy. The Biden crime family is demonstrably the most corrupt presidential family in history — topping even the Clintons, but Democrats will, to paraphrase Raskin, “devise any argument to try to guarantee Biden’s total immunity and impunity.” Raskin is a liar and propagandist, which is why the leftist media parade him so often before the cameras.

** Likening the Trump Movement to a “Fascist Political Party”

In a September 4, 2022 interview with CBS ([link removed]) News correspondent Major Garrett on the program Face the Nation, Raskin stated that former President Trump’s MAGA movement had the “hallmarks of a fascist political party.” Below is a transcript of the relevant excerpt:
GARRETT: So, former President Trump says that MAGA Republicans are trying to save democracy. They want to be taken seriously on this issue. So let’s review what the former president said this week earlier. He said the 2020 election should be rerun, or he should be reinstated in office, and that if reelected in 2024, he would provide apologies and full pardons to those charged and or convicted for storming the Capitol on January 6, evaluate that.
RASKIN: Well, first, if he’s saying that the election should be rerun, which is something he’s been asserting from the beginning, that’s totally outside of the Constitution. There is no procedure for the military just to seize the election machinery and run a new election, which is one of the things that his disgraced former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn was pushing, and we know was part of the January 6 plot. And look, more than 60 courts rejected every claim of electoral fraud and corruption which Donald Trump advanced. He’s had the benefit of more than 60 courts, including eight courts where he [had]appointed the judges to office, look at all those claims and they were all rejected. It was rejected in the states, and he lost the election. Two of the hallmarks of a fascist political party are, one, they don’t accept the results of elections that don’t go their way, and two, they embrace political violence. And I think that’s why President Biden was right to sound the alarm
this week about these continuing attacks on our constitutional order from the outside by Donald Trump and his movement.
