Dear Neighbors,
Reminder that I am hosting a 2nd Amendment town hall in Verndale this Sunday, March 26th at the Verndale Community Center (109 1st Ave SE). Please be sure to join us as we discuss extreme legislation being proposed in St. Paul that would infringe on the rights of all law-abiding Minnesotans. The meeting is set to begin at 2:00 PM on Sunday.
Please attend to make sure your voice is heard!
Budget Picture Coming into Focus
On Tuesday, the Governor, DFL Speaker of the House, and DFL Senate Majority Leader released joint budget targets. These targets represent an agreement on how much new money they plan to spend in 2023 and the framework for doing so.
The agreement calls for a $17.9 billion net increase?in the state budget. This is a 30% increase from the current $52 billion state budget. As a reminder, Minnesota currently has a $17.5 billion surplus.?
Additionally, if fully implemented, Gov. Walz?s budget proposal would result in nearly 2,400 new government employees.
As you can tell from the numbers presented above, Democrats are looking to increase spending BEYOND funds available via the budget surplus. This dramatic increase in government spending is unsustainable and reckless. It will almost certainly result in budget deficits in the near future.
All of you know that I would prefer a much different approach?one that would give the surplus back to you, the people of Minnesota.
I am committed to keep fighting to make sure that this reckless spending is not signed into law. In the meantime, I ask that you remain engaged in the process down here in St. Paul and to contact your local legislators (Senate and House) and ask them to support tax relief.
Protecting Kids
Last night, House Democrats passed their bill that would establish Minnesota as a sanctuary state for transgender health care. This bill would allow minors to travel to Minnesota to receive these treatments without parental consent, posing a threat to parental rights and the well-being of children, not just in our state, but across the nation.
This extreme and radical bill does not in any way represent the priorities of most Minnesotans and was an easy ?no? vote for me.
Please continue to pray for our state as we fight against these harmful policies in St. Paul on your behalf.
