WE WILL NEVER STOP FIGHTING THE FUR INDUSTRY
Dear John,
Fur products cannot be produced without animal suffering. Every year, 100 million fur-farmed animals spend their entire lives in cramped cages only to be gassed or electrocuted at the end. LCA's undercover investigation into a Canadian mink farm showed animals living in horrible conditions and suffering from infected wounds, self-mutilation, and illness.
LCA is commited to fighting the fur industry and ending the fur trade. Here are some of the fur campaigns we are working on:
Hawaii State Fur Ban - LCA is supporting Bill SB 682 SD1 that would ban the retail sale of new fur products in Hawaii. SB 682 SD1 has passed the House Judiciary Committee on 3/16/2023 and was referred to the Finance Committee. We will keep Hawaii residents updated on the next action to take.
Oregon State Fur Ban - LCA is supporting Bill HB 3390, that would ban the retail sale of new fur products in Oregon. HB 3390 is scheduled for a Judiciary Committee hearing on 3/30/2023. Oregon residents can submit a statement of support here.
Fur-Free Alliance - LCA is a member of the Fur-Free Alliance (FFA), a coalition of over 50 animal protection groups worldwide working to end the fur trade. The FFA focuses on ending the global fur trade through political, corporate, and consumer actions.
Fur-Free Retailer Program - As part of the Fur-Free Alliance, LCA has joined the Fur-Free Retailer program, which specifically targets department stores and luxury brands that sell fur in the United States.
Fur-Free Friday - For 36 years, LCA has hosted the annual Fur-Free Friday protest in Beverly Hills, California. The event is held on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year. In the past, Beverly Hills had a large number of stores that sold fur. This year, as California's historic fur ban goes into effect, it is now illegal to sell fur in California. Unfortunately, there are still stores and brands in Beverly Hills that are selling fur in other states and/or online. We will continue to hold Fur-Free Friday in Beverly Hills until these stores and brands stop selling fur.
