Derek is dedicated to his family and his community. I’ve seen him fight hard for every opportunity for my grandson Julian and I know he’ll be just as dedicated in fighting for every opportunity for yours.

As a public school teacher, I taught Derek the value of a good education. And he has never taken his for granted. I was so proud when Derek graduated from University of Virginia and went on to earn his JD from Temple Law.

When Derek says he’s going to do something, he does it. I didn’t blink an eye when he told me he was visiting 100 small businesses in the final 100 days of this race. You can rely on him to get it done.

My son has experience in everything from being a small business owner with my daughter-in-law Sheila to Assistant District Attorney to — most recently — Councilmember At-Large. In all of his roles, he is the epitome of how cooler heads prevail. As Mayor, I know he’ll work to bring everyone to the table to find solutions to our city’s problems.

Derek’s knowledge of Philadelphia, the law, and all of the different communities across our city will be invaluable as Mayor. He understands how the right policies — like his groundbreaking proposal of a public bank — can transform lives.
