We recently marked the 50th anniversary of the occupation at Wounded Knee in 1973, a historical moment that encouraged intense FBI harassment of activist members of the American Indian Movement (AIM). Two years later, in 1975, a massive shootout at the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota ended with three people dead: a young Native man and two FBI agents.
AIM activist Leonard Peltier was present that day and arrested despite a lack of evidence connecting him to the FBI agents’ deaths. He has been serving time in a maximum security prison for the last 48 years. All these decades later, Indigenous Earth Defenders in the Amazon still face similar threats of harassment, criminalization, and even murder.
Native activists in the U.S. and Earth Defenders around the world face legal and life-threatening repercussions to protect our planet.
In solidarity with Earth Defenders in the U.S., sign to demand President Biden free Leonard Peltier!
