I spent this week bringing more Texas to Washington and fighting to keep Washington out of Texas. I wanted to take a moment to update you on my work in Congress!

THE BRIEF:

The head of the U.S. Border Patrol told lawmakers the agency does not have operational control of the U.S. southern border and stated that migration levels were at "crisis" levels in parts of the border.
House Republicans proposed a major energy and permitting reform package known as H.R. 1, the Lower Energy Costs Act.
President Biden issued his first veto since taking office, rejecting a bill that would have banned the consideration of environmental, social or governance issues in retirement and other investment decisions.

SUPPORTING LOCAL HOSPITALS

With the growth of Williamson County, it is imperative for the health of Central Texans that we have well-equipped hospitals to treat patients here and now. I am proud to return $3 million back to TX-31 for a high-tech cardiac catheterization lab in Round Rock. The funding will provide additional equipment to help medical staff save lives during cardiac emergencies. I am proud to work with Baylor Scott & White, the largest non-profit healthcare system in Texas, on this important funding that will benefit our community!

FUNDING OUR MILITARY

As the new Chairman of the House Appropriations Military Construction and Veteran Affairs Subcommittee, it is my job to ensure Congress provides vital funding for the men and women that are currently serving and have served our great country. The subcommittee held a hearing with Army leaders to discuss funding needs for housing and infrastructure improvements. Investing in housing, childcare and training facilities is critical to readiness and quality of life for our Soldiers and their families.

2023 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

The 2023 Congressional Art Competition is here! Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by the U.S. House of Representatives to recognize the talents of young artists across the nation. The theme for 2023 is “Let Freedom Ring." TX-31 student artists can submit artwork for a chance to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The deadline to submit art is April 25. Additional guidelines and application forms can be found on my website.

SAYING FAREWELL TO OUR SPRING INTERNS
