Gov. Pritzker Announces Two Appointments to Boards and Commissions

Building on a strong team of diverse experts in their fields, Governor JB Pritzker announced the following appointments in his administration

Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission

Kafi Moragne-Patterson will serve as a Member of the Torture Inquiry and Relief Commission.* Dr. Kafi Moragne-Patterson has over a decade of experience studying and advocating for strong, long term community-based mentorship within underserved communities. She currently serves as the Senior Program Director for College and Career Success at the University of Chicago’s Inclusive Economy Lab. In this role, Dr. Moragne-Patterson is responsible for a $3 million programmatic budget and has successfully secured funds from individual donors and federal entities. She also has experience as the Director of College Success with Chicago Scholars, where she created a long-term vision for the organization’s path to partnering with colleges, community-based organizations, mentors, and volunteers. Dr. Moragne-Patterson is active within several professional organizations including the National Association for Multicultural Education, the Society for Social Work and Research, and the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity. She received a Bachelor of Arts with a Concentration in Cultural Anthropology and Africana Studies from Vassar College, a Master of Social Work with a Concentration in Advocacy, Leadership and Social Change from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Chicago with a Concentration in Social Service Administration.

Employment Security Advisory Board

Rick Terven will continue to serve as a Member of the Employment Security Advisory Board.* Rick Terven has spent his career advocating for working families across Illinois. He currently serves as the Legislative and Political Affairs Director for Illinois Pipe Trades Association, where he represents 30,000 Plumbers and Pipefitters in front of the Illinois General Assembly. Terven also has experience as Vice President of Illinois AFL-CIO and as a Field Organizer for Illinois Pipe Trades Association. He has been a member of the Employment Security Advisory Board since 2016 and is an Illinois Representative for the UA Political Education Committee. Terven received an Associate of Arts degree from Heartland Community College and a Bachelor of Arts in Labor Studies from National Labor College.
