John, Urgent!! Governor Cooper has vetoed the dangerous bill Senate Bill 41. This is our last chance to stop Pistol Purchase Permit Repeal from becoming law! Tell lawmakers to sustain the veto of SB 41, which would repeal North Carolina's life-saving Pistol Purchase Permitting (PPP) system. This system requires all handgun purchasers to pass a background check, no matter where they are buying the handgun – even from a private seller at a gun show or online. When Missouri repealed a similar law, gun homicides and gun suicides spiked in the years afterwards [1]. We cannot allow that to happen in North Carolina! This bill is truly a life and death choice for our lawmakers, and we are calling on them to do the right thing. SB 41 is also extremely dangerous for people at risk of domestic violence, because the federal system does not include some types of misdemeanor domestic violence convictions from NC. Without the PPP process, someone could be convicted of Misdemeanor Assault on a Female or Misdemeanor Assault on a Child Under 12 the day before trying to buy a handgun, and these convictions would not appear when a federally licensed dealer checked the NICS system before selling them the handgun. PPP is the only safeguard for stopping domestic abusers with these misdemeanor convictions from getting their hands on a handgun. This bill would also allow concealed carry of firearms in religious places of worship with associated schools on their property. It is unimaginable that lawmakers would want to allow firearms onto any property that includes a school - tell them to sustain the veto. This is our last chance: Sign now and tell your NC lawmakers: please sustain the veto on this dangerous bill! - Becky, Sara, & Tyler References: 1.
