Friend,
When the White House released President Biden’s budget proposal, the New York Times’ headline read: “Biden’s $6.8 Trillion Budget Proposes New Social Programs and Higher Taxes.”(1)
It’s the definition of fearmongering.
By the Times’ own admission, the new taxes are on the wealthiest 1% and the corporations that have made record profits off us in the last three years.(2) And instead of focusing on military spending and ignoring working families, the budget has funding for critical programs, including affordable childcare, home services for the elderly, and paid family leave.(3)
The GOP is having a field day tearing apart the Biden budget, and Congress needs to hear from us, the people, that we want these programs to be a priority. That’s why Courage California has joined a coalition of organizations to connect you with your representative.

To say that the working families of America are facing a crisis is an understatement. Just look at these statistics:
- 69% of American families can’t afford to buy a median priced home(4)
- 25% of families had trouble affording food or housing in the last year(5)
- 34% of parents are having trouble finding regular childcare(6)
- 37% of retirees have no retirement savings(7)
The Biden budget addresses these issues, with a reinstatement of the expanded Child Tax Credit, $59 billion for affordable housing, $150 billion for community services for the elderly, and $600 billion for childcare subsidies in the next decade.(8)
The budget also reduces the federal deficit by instituting fair taxes on billionaires and corporations, a long-overdue policy.
The United States is the wealthiest country in the world. We can afford to invest in our future and support our working families, and the time to start is now.
