Team,
This Women’s History Month, I’m reminded why I dedicate my work to my mom, Elia Rosas.
Growing up in Texas, I watched my parents work hard to give me and my sisters a good life. But at every turn, I also saw deep injustice and felt like we were not always welcome.
I saw injustice toward my mother, who lived her life without health insurance and who, because of her lack of status, struggled to get the care she needed for her cancer diagnosis.
But even through dark days, my mother never wavered in her convictions. She dared us to defy those who tried to tear us down by finding joy. She would say to my sisters and I, “Atrévete a ser feliz. Dare to be happy.”
She instilled a fierce determination and discipline of hope in us. Hope that we could demand better for ourselves, our families, and our entire community. And that hope was manifested in action.
Hope channeled into action fueled my work as an organizer for immigrant justice, and it fuels my work today as the Executive Director of UWDA — where we’re fighting to win dignity for undocumented youth, and ALL people.
I joined the movement and found my political home in UWDA fighting for citizenship so that families like mine can:
- Have better access to health and reproductive care
- Take advantage of educational and job opportunities that have previously been denied to us
- Win the right to vote so we can deepen our political power
We’re working to ensure UWDA is a space where future generations of immigrant women of all identities are able to grow their leadership and build power — to show that we are undeniable and we are here to stay.
So, today, I’m personally asking: Will you make a donation to help UWDA build a better future for women and all immigrants? We’re counting on the support of grassroots allies like you to help us expand our movement, win our demands for permanent protections, and prepare for the critical immigration fights ahead.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
I will continue to dare to be happy — atrévete a ser feliz — just as my mother, Elia, taught me. And I will continue to lead with fierce determination and a discipline of hope.
Because all women deserve to be unafraid to take pride in who they are and where they come from. Not just on months designated to us — but every single day.
Thank you for your support,
Greisa Martínez Rosas
Executive Director
