ORLANDO, Fla. - Republicans have gathered here to refine their messaging on the economy, inflation and energy but are going into overtime while hashing out issues behind closed doors.
"It's always more challenging when you're the majority, because you're expected to put ideas forth and be able to pass them," said House Natural Resources Chair Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) Monday. "And when you're in a slim majority, it makes it that much more difficult."
Republicans are hoping to resolve outstanding differences Tuesday morning when they meet to discuss H.R. 1, the "Lower Energy Costs Act." The measure would speed up permits for hardrock mining, renewable energy and pipelines. And it would lock in more regular oil and gas lease sales. Read more

2024 Presidential Election
The 2024 GOP Field: How they win, how they lose
Politico | Steven Shepard

The race for the GOP presidential nomination has a set of historic firsts: a former president seeking an Oval Office comeback, a vice president who refused to go along with a plot to steal the last election, the most politically accomplished woman ever to run as a Republican - and an already-popular governor waiting in the wings.
Who ultimately wins out will take on President Joe Biden in a likely reelection bid - and potentially secure the White House.
There are also other candidates and would-be candidates, too. We've put the entire field into three categories - based roughly on their chances to capture the nod - along with full scouting reports for everything that could go right or wrong along the road to the 2024 convention in Milwaukee. Biden issues first veto of his presidency over influence from 'MAGA Republicans'
Biden singled out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene
FOX News | Anders Hagstrom
March 20, 2023
President Joe Biden vetoed a bill for the first time in his presidency on Monday, arguing that the legislation was overly influenced by "MAGA Republicans."
The Republican-led legislation prevented Biden's administration from taking environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues into account when making investment decisions. GOP lawmakers argue ESG is a measure of a corporation's loyalty to "woke" cultural movements and should not be taken into account.
"I just vetoed my first bill. This bill would risk your retirement savings by making it illegal to consider risk factors MAGA House Republicans don't like. Your plan manager should be able to protect your hard-earned savings - whether Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene likes it or not," Biden announced in a Monday tweet. Read more

Introducing The Presidential Inflation Range

With the White House spinning the February CPI 6% year-over-year inflation numbers, perhaps it's time for a different statistical take on his "progress" by looking at the CPI not just month-to-month or year-over-year but through a kind of data-based "report card," what we call the "Presidential Inflation Rate," or PIR. It measures a president's handling of inflation from their inauguration month to the month of their most recent CPI report. For Biden,m we used the CPI price index for January 2021, when he took office, and compared it to the price index in the most current CPI report (February 2023) - or 26 months into his term.
