Around the globe hunger and malnutrition claim lives and cripple communities. Unto® works with local partners to provide sustainable solutions to hunger by providing agricultural supplies and trainings in communities where people need food most. Families learn to grow their own food — and sell the surplus to provide for their other basic needs. Local staff teams are also able to build relationships, share the eternal hope of Jesus, and establish new churches.

After losing their home to a flood, Antonio and his family were relocated to a temporary housing community outside of Villanueva, Honduras. Despite the challenges they faced, Antonio was determined to provide for his aging parents. So he set up a tropical juice stand in their new community. Then COVID-19 hit, shutting down his business and depleting his savings.

Thankfully people like you stepped in to help provide a sustainable solution to the persistent hunger people in his community face. Local Unto staff members hosted an agricultural workshop in partnership with a local church pastor. Participants received training on raised bed gardening, composting, and bucket drip irrigation. They also received seeds to grow a variety of vegetables.

Antonio was the first person to show up for the workshop. He invited the team to use the small plot of land in front of his house for the training. During the workshop he listened attentively. He was also provided with enough seeds and materials to show three other families in the community how to produce their own healthy food.

The local church pastor had the opportunity to build a relationship with Antonio and his parents. Antonio just recently responded to the message of Jesus. Now with a new church established in his community, he can be discipled and grow alongside other believers.

In another community a local staff team had the opportunity to provide an agriculture workshop for a girls’ orphanage. Now the girls will learn gardening as part of their education and have access to plenty of nutritious food. They are also hearing about Jesus through the relationships built with local staff members and pastors.

When an Unto team member shared his story during the village’s local church service, people began responding to the message before he was finished speaking. Six people came to faith! Thank you for providing sustainable solutions to hunger and creating opportunities for people to hear about the eternal hope of Jesus.
