A new bill in California would be the first in the nation to create a state-level ban on five different harmful food chemicals. But manufacturers from the candy and confectionery industry are trying to kill it.

Even at low doses, all of these chemicals present a well-documented risk in food. And they’ve all been prohibited from use in just about every processed food in the EU, despite the candy industry’s claims that there’s “no evidence” to support banning these chemicals.
