Instead, Congress likes to blame their fiscal crisis on tax cut programs like NTU's Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, their favorite deficit scapegoat, and empower the IRS to reach deeper into the pockets of taxpayers. 

Congress recently gave the IRS $80 BILLION to pursue an aggressive strategy centered on heavier-handed enforcement to shake taxpayers down for every penny. 

They will do anything besides cutting spending and sticking to a budget.

In addition to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, NTU has been part of every significant taxpayer victory of the last five decades. 

We were there when the federal tax code was overhauled under President Reagan in 1986. We championed the cause for a “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” in the late 80s and 90s, with follow-on legislation, the 2019 Taxpayer First Act. And in 2020, our public education arm launched the Taxpayer Defense Center to fight for taxpayers in court. TDC has already helped to hand the IRS major defeats in the Supreme Court and at the state level.

It’s no wonder Congress likes to blame NTU for their problems — NTU’s victories benefit the taxpayer, not politicians or special interests.
