I believe things happen for a reason.
While I was extremely disappointed about the outcome of the 2022 Senate race, and what that means for Alaska and our great nation, it opened my eyes to an emerging threat facing our democracy.
When Alaska first used RCV in 2022 (including my U.S. Senate race), it had the lowest voter turnout since it first became a state, 63 years ago. In contrast, the rest of the U.S. had one of the highest voter turnout rates. If Alaska had seen normal voter turnout, we likely would have had different election results.
To address this threat, I want my supporters to be the first to know that we've started Preserve Democracy, a non-partisan group dedicated to increasing voter turnout and fighting the spread of RCV.
