Dear friend — it’s hard to believe that the Affordable Care Act was signed into law 13 years ago today.
To this day, I still consider the time spent working with colleagues to draft and pass the ACA to be one of the most foundational experiences of my career.
Long before joining the Fairness Project team, I got my start on Capitol Hill. It was during my time there that I learned so little of what we do is about politics, and so much more of it is about diplomacy. It was truly a formative experience to work with so many people who used their designated areas of expertise to put together a package so comprehensive, that every single American would benefit from it.
The perspective I gained working alongside other Congressional staffers and members of the Ways & Means Committee has helped shape my time with the Fairness Project. We’re living at a time when our politics are the most divided they may have ever been, and too many politicians care more now about what party they represent than making a difference in the lives of their constituents.
Our team has won real change 31 times over because when we decide to run a campaign, we do so wholeheartedly — we make sure that no matter your party or your ideals, you benefit from this policy.
It’s why we’ve won campaigns to raise wages, guarantee paid leave, enact policing reforms, protect abortion, and more in red, purple, and blue states across the country — because Americans everywhere agree with common-sense reforms that improve our lives.
And it’s how we’ve been able to leverage the ACA to expand Medicaid to over 1 million people in America. If you’re with us as we continue to enact life-saving policies across the country via ballot measure, will you support our work today, friend?
