Title 42 may be ending, but there’s a new threat.

Dear Friend,

Three years ago, today, the Trump administration introduced Title 42; a policy to expel migrants at our borders under the guise of public health. The Biden administration continued this policy and even expanded it.

With every donation, like, and share, you helped Immigration Equality fight Title 42 at every step of the way. Together, we ensured that LGBTQ asylum seekers fleeing persecution could enter our country and be free to be themselves.

Following President Biden’s anticipated lifting of the pandemic emergency in May, his administration will no longer be able to claim the illegal exclusions are warranted. However, there is still work to be done.

Even though we expect Title 42 to end, asylum is still under threat. The Biden administration recently announced a new federal rule that would bar asylum for migrants who travel through another country to arrive at our southwest border.

This rule will almost certainly result in the senseless death of LGBTQ refugees, most of whom would otherwise find safety through asylum in the United States. Requiring LGBTQ & HIV-positive refugees to remain in unsafe circumstances is inhumane and cruel.

We know, with you in our corner – we will fight this ban on asylum and protect LGBTQ immigrants.

We’re thankful for your fierce advocacy for LGBTQ asylum seekers in fighting against Title 42, but now, we must act quickly to protect asylum against this new threat. Make your voice heard and submit a comment to President Biden by this Monday, March 27th, by clicking the link and following the instructions on our website.

Tell Biden you won’t let him restrict asylum

With gratitude,
Immigration Equality
