Hello neighbor,

I hope you and your family are doing well as we move into spring. I know we’re all looking forward to warmer weather, the Tigers’ Opening Day, and a well-deserved week off for our students and teachers. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some updates from Lansing, since we’ve had a very busy month in the legislature.

Since I was first elected, one of my top priorities has been advocating for workers, and one of my first actions as a State Senator was introducing legislation to expand worker’s rights and restore our state’s role as a leader in organized labor. For a decade, anti-worker laws have weakened the ability for our unions to collectively bargain for higher wages, better benefits, and safer workplace conditions.

As the son and grandson of union auto workers, it’s hard to say how much this means to me. I am thrilled that my bill, [Senate Bill 34]([link removed]), passed both the Senate and the House of Representatives, and that leadership in Lansing is finally supporting working people across our state.

This was a great victory for Michiganders, but we didn’t stop there. Legislation was also passed that reinstated the prevailing wage across our state. This will ensure that all workers on a state construction project are paid union-level wages. Putting more money into the pockets of our skilled laborers and construction staff is something we should all support, and I am glad we were able to do just that.

From pension tax repeal that we accomplished earlier this year to expanding workers’ rights, we are keeping our promises and moving Michigan in the right direction. There is still so much work to be done as we look to create a state where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, and I’m committed to staying engaged with my neighbors as I continue to serve on your behalf.

As always, if you need assistance of any kind or have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to contact my office.

In solidarity,

Darrin CamilleriState SenatorDistrict 4
