President Biden recently approved a new, huge oil drilling project in
Alaska.^1

Approval for more oil drilling, especially on this scale, is the LAST
thing we need in this country as the threat of climate change grows. We
cannot allow oil giant ConocoPhillips' project, called Willow, to go
forward. This project, driven by Big Oil’s corporate greed, will cause
irreparable harm to the environment, Arctic wildlife, and nearby
communities that depend on the land.

During the 2020 campaign, President Biden pledged to ban "new oil and gas
permitting on public lands and waters."^2 What happened to that promise?

This massive oil project also undermines President Biden’s promise to
slash greenhouse gas emissions in half by 2030. The science is clear: We
can't afford any new oil and gas projects if we're going to avoid climate
catastrophe. Willow would lock in an estimated 9.2 million metric tons of
carbon dioxide a year — equal to driving nearly 2 million gas-powered cars
— for potentially 30 years.^3 Willow will have devastating consequences,
there’s no doubt.

Despite the Administration’s announcement, it is NOT too late for
President Biden to reverse this awful decision. Construction of this
dangerous project will not start until next year. There IS still time to
do the right thing.
