Opportunity Knocks as Administration Submits FY24 Budget Request
 
Many thanks to everyone who joined us last week for our webinar about aging policy and the 118th Congress! More than 1,000 people registered for the event, hearing directly from elected officials setting the country's direction on aging issues.

Right on cue, an opportunity for improving federal policy has come knocking.
 
The Biden administration submitted its FY24 budget request to Congress. The plan includes major investment in—and expansions of—aging services programs that would address urgent needs among older adults, people with disabilities, caregivers, and the aging services network.

Some possible outcomes we're tracking:
  • Medicare Part A Trust Fund solvency would be extended an estimated 25 years.
  • $150 billion to improve access to Medicaid HCBS, reducing waiting lists and allowing older adults and people with disabilities to age in place while receiving needed health care at home.
  • The Medicaid funding would also address the growing direct care workforce crisis.
  • Medicare's prescription drug coverage and price negotiation powers would be improved.
  • Establishment of a national comprehensive paid family and medical leave program, providing up to 12 weeks of leave to eligible workers for time off for caregiving of a loved one.
  • Eligibility for an estimated 2 million additional adults for health insurance coverage in states that have opted not to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
